A Week With Us 9/10/17-15/10/17
After having a few weeks off, we are back with A WEEK WITH US.
I honestly don’t know where the last has gone! The days seem to have flown by!
Happy Birthday mckenzie
On Tuesday it was Mckenzie’s 7th Birthday. I can’t believe our tiny 6 lb 8oz baby boy, born on 10/10/10 is 7! Mckenzie got a laptop for his birthday. Only thing is, when we bought the laptop I told the sales assistant that my son needs a laptop so he can play Minecraft and Roblox as well as watch YouTube. We were pointed in the direction of the Chromebooks. Great, I thought, this is ideal, not badly priced and does what Mckenzie needs it to do.
How wrong were we? First thing Mckenzie did was try to download Minecraft. You’ll never guess…its not compatible with Chromebook. Well, with Mckenzie having his heart set on a laptop and it being his birthday, he was in tears. Mckenzie struggles to self regulate his emotions so you can imagine, he was hysterical. He was so knocked by this that he had a numerous meltdowns and was in no fit state to go to school. He kept saying ‘Mummy, I’m not having a very happy birthday because I’m sad’.
Grandad saves the day
My dad, Mckenzie’s grandad rang to wish him a Happy Birthday, obviously this set Mckenzie off again. My dad left work and picked Mckenzie up. He took him to the shops and only went and bought him a chuffing gaming laptop!!! Mckenzie was more than happy. In fact he hasn’t put it down since.
Sensory smart parenting course
On Tuesday I attended the first of a three part Sensory Smart Parenting course. This is run by my local NHS occupational therapy department. Having Harvey and Mckenzie diagnosed with Sensory processing disorder or sensory differences I thought this would be useful course to do. Get a greater understanding of their needs and how to help them cope. Over the next week I plan to write a post about sensory processing disorder. Keep any eye out for it!
Cameron received his Bronze Duke Of Edinburgh award this week. I’m so proud of him for giving it a go and gaining some life experience and skills. He’s planning on doing the Silver Award too!
Caelan came home from school one gold award with week. The gold awards are part of the behaviour system in their primary school. He’s settling into school nicely and getting lots of praise from his teachers. Even though he doesn’t know all of his letters just yet, he is trying to sound out words by phonically sounding them out.
PRE TEEN AND THREE-NAGER
Our Harvey (12) and Cohen (2) seem to be full of emotions and attitude this week. Lots of answering back and tantrums. I’ve been here before, it’s an age thing! All apart of their development and life lessons.
The fight continues
I am fighting to get Mckenzie help and support. He is struggling on a daily basis. Check out our About us page about Mckenzie’s diagnosis.
I am still adamant his is ‘on the spectrum’. A lot of his behaviours match those of high functioning autism or Aspergers.
This weekend, while Mckenzie was at Halloween Camp with his Beaver group we decorated the landing and kitchen. Nothing drastic, just a lick of magnolia paint. When Mckenzie came back from Halloween camp, I could tell he had been ‘over stimulated’. As soon as he walked into the kitchen he noticed the change. He started shouting that he didn’t like it. He ran upstairs to be greeted by another change. This topped him off. He was freaking out.
Mckenzie had an unsettled night. He was hard to settle at bedtime and woke numerous times during the night. This is not the typical behaviour of a 7 year old child.
Today he has been very unsettled. Very on edge and emotional. The slightest thing has upset him, resulting in a ‘meltdown’ at bedtime.
This is not anxiety.
I will get to the bottom of this.
I hope that you have had a brilliant week and I wish you a fantastic week ahead.
