A Week With Us – 28th August 2017 – 3rd September 2017
Monday was August bank holiday. We decided to have a day trip out to Lindisfarne also known as Holy Island. Just off the Northumbrian Coast. It’s a 2 hour drive for us, straight up the A1(M) so easy to get to.
I absolutely adore it up there. The Northumbrian coast is beautiful and has so much history and attractions.
Cameron and Harvey decided that they didn’t want to come, so they made plans with their Grandad. I don’t force my boys to do anything. I give them an informed choice and they make their own decisions about things.
So, there was only 5 of us. Like I said the trip took 2 hours. With Lindisfarne, you have to check the tide timetable as once the tide has come in theres no getting to and from the island.
The first thing we did was have a wonder around the few shops that are on the island. The shops sold amazing craftsmanship such as pottery, shawls, glass pieces and art. A lot of it was from Celtic origins.
We made our way to the castle, which was closed due to refurbishment. I can say, we were a little disappointed as we had promised the boys we could go into the ‘castle on the hill’. (Its my younger boys favourite song) The castle is a National Trust site.
On our way up the the castle we went onto the rocky shoreline and ended up rock pooling. My boys loved it when we found a tiny crab. My boys loved climbing over and amongst the rocks and throwing stones into the sea.
After our walk to the castle we made our way back and stopped at a cafe for lunch.
We then made our way to the Priory. The Priory is an English Heritage site.
I must say we had a right adventure.
Definitely had 3 tired boys that night.
We were back at work this week. Busy childminding.
