On the tenth day of parenting – Winter Outdoor Activities For The Festive Season
Winter is one of my favourite times of the year. Not only because of all the traditions and celebrations, but because it’s such a beautiful time of year.
Grab your winter coat, hat, gloves and scarfs. Let’s get outside and enjoys some Winter Outdoor Activities For The festive season.
Ice Skating- Every winter, during the festive season, ice rinks begin to appear in well-known locations all across the UK. They pop up in local shopping centres and town centres as part of the celebrations for Christmas. Ice skating is the perfect evening or weekend activity for all the family, as it’s suitable for kids as well as adults, but be prepared for a few bumps and bruises if you’re skating skills aren’t up brilliant. But you have to admit, it will be a giggle watching the other half spend best part of the session on their backside.
Scavenger Hunt- Write or draw a list of things to scavenge (look for) . We love creating scavenger hunts linked to the seasons. It’s a great way to get children to notice and recognise their surrounds. Taking in the natural world. We search for thing that are plant, wildlife and weather related. If you don’t have time to make a list yourself, there are plenty of fantastic printable resources and ideas available on Pinterest.
Jumping In puddles- This has to be one of our favourite things to do. Children and especially toddlers, can happily spend hours splashing about in puddles. wrap them up in some waterproofs and let them loose! Why not don a pair of wellies yourself and join in? As the saying goes;
‘There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes!’
Geocaching- The worlds biggest, secret treasure hunt! If you’ve never hear of it, geocaching is a worldwide outdoors activity. In every town, in every city, in every countryside there are little geocaches hidden around and anyone can go looking for them. Some of them are big boxes and have treasure in them, some of them are so small that it takes a lot of thought to find them. It’s a fun free activity for the whole family, and can be done at anytime of year. It’s a great excuse to get out and get some fresh air.
Fun In The Snow
It’s not very often we get snow, but when we do here’s some ways to enjoy the snow as a family.
- Pack snow onto a tray or dish and paint it with water colours.
- Get out your seaside toys – dig with the shovels, build snow castles with buckets.
- Make a snow angel
- Mix water and food colouring in squeeze bottles and paint messages and pictures in the snow
- Instead of making a snowman, try sculpting another objects such a snow castle, a snow boat, a snow bed – use your imagination
- Snowball target practice
- Go to the park and go sledging
Let me know if you give any of these Outdoor Activities For The Festive Season a go! I’d love to here from you.
