GUEST POST- Fussy Eater

GUEST POST- Fussy Eater

This fortnights Guest post is from Jemma Jargom at All Thing Jargom

I’m not entirely sure when this happened but my 3 year old is a ‘fussy eater‘. I admit I don’t like to use the phrase but unfortunately I think Henry is.

When Henry was being weaned he ate everything I put in front of him. All his fruit and vegetables, everything, if I’d put a plate of sand in front of him, he probably would have eaten that too. In fact he did this I think well up until he was at least 2. I say ‘I think’ because I don’t really know when things changed.

I’ve hit a bit of a brick wall, I’m struggling I’ll admit. He has his firm favourites, pizza, dry plain pasta, plain rice, cheese and ham sandwich. The thing is we all try and sit down and have dinner at the same time, I believe this is important. I always give everyone the same meal the only ‘rule’ I have is that everything has to be tried. If you don’t like it, that’s OK because it’s been tried, everyone has different tastes.

Here lies the problem; we have a point blank refusal to even try. A lot of dinners he will get the bit he likes, there may be rice or pasta and guaranteed he will eat that first then refuse to try the rest. If the dinner is something he doesn’t like the look of, he won’t even try it.

All I want him to do is try the food, half of it he will probably even like. The biggest thing I’ve tried is to tell him there’s no dessert (yoghurt for example) if the dinner is not even tried. This has failed on nearly all attempts; he would rather go without food than try something he doesn’t like the look of.

I’m out of ideas, I don’t know what else to try, I won’t force him to eat it obviously, but I also don’t want to go down the route of giving him everything he wants and doing a separate dinner every night. I say dinner; it would probably just be a bowl of dry pasta.

Any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Heres a little bit about Jemma

Jemma is 31, a wife and a mummy to two little ones, Henry aged 3 and a half and Mollie aged 7 months. She is currently on maternity leave from her part time job in retail, and loving being at home with them both.;

Her blog is a little bit of a creative outlet for her, and she is really enjoying it, having only just started. The blog itself is just a little dip into them as a family, with a little bit of  lifestyle thrown in. She is looking forward to seeing how it grows and develops.
