On The Fourth Day Of Parenting – Christmas Dinner Destress

The countdown is on. 9 Days to go until Christmas Day. The tree and decorations are up. You’ve more or less finished your Christmas shopping. The presents are wrapped.

The only thing you have got to tackle is the Christmas Dinner. Over the years I have organised, prepared and cooked  the Christmas dinner. I know  how stressful it can be. Worrying if the meats will cook in time. Will there be enough food? Are there enough plates?

Here are some of my own and fellow bloggers hints and tips.

  • Pre-order your food online to beat the rush.
  • Buy frozen food, it can be bought weeks in advance and cooked in batches.
  • Get everyone to help out to take the pressure from yourself.
  • Keep calm and write down timings of everything so you don’t forget, or even better – set alarm reminders on your phone! Rope in family members to help chop veg, etc, too   – Victoria at www.lyliarose.com
  •  Definitely write a list so you know your timings and don’t forget anything. Have some pre-made savoury nibbles to get people started and have jugs of non alcoholic cocktails on a serving tray so that if you’re in the middle of preparing something you don’t suddenly have half a dozen empty cups waved under your nose! I also make as much as possible in advance to save on time on the day so I get to talk to people too.- Jo at http://cupoftoast.co.uk
  •  Pre cook the roast veg and potatoes and freeze and just pop into the oven for 20-30 minutes.- Rose at Bellandbear.co.uk
  • Try to get some help from family. We share some of the tasks, so somebody makes the stuffing and gravy, and somebody else concentrated on the veg.- Pete at  www.householdmoneysaving.com
  • Write a cooking schedule the day before – and get someone else to prep the vegetables the night before while you’re writing it! – Julie at https://ponderingparenthood.com
  • Check out Julie’s Christmas Day schedule https://ponderingparenthood.com/christmas-day-cooking-schedule/

Just remember that Christmas is for celebrating and spending time with Family and friends. Sit back, relax, raise your favoured drink and raise a toast to the feast you have made.
